Poll workers in Eau Claire have been busy all day long. Both the Eau Claire city and county clerks are predicting a 50% to 60% turnout. City Clerk Donna Austad says that's slightly higher than four years ago.
"I still think it's because of the number of races that we have where we don't have incumbents seeking reelection, plus there are a couple where the incumbents are seeking reelection and are having quite a race on their hands," Austad says.
Austad says all 19 polling places across the city have been steady. Voters say the close races and heated arguments for both sides were the most notable part of this election.
"Whether you support the president or not, you're speaking toward that in this mid-term election whether you support what he's done up until now or you want something changed," says Shane Pearce.
"In my lifetime, I've never seen an election with so much hot air, polarization and lack of respect for other people. We're all Americans, we should have something in common," says Steven Majstorovic.
"It's important to vote. It's just important to make sure you vote for the person that you want," says Tom Williams.
"I always vote. I'm a veteran of the U.S. Navy Gulf War. I feel it's my civic duty," says Steven Butler.
The polls close tonight at 8 p.m. Anyone who is inside a polling place at 8:00 will be able to vote.
