Voters reject both proposals in Ellsworth school referendum

ELLSWORTH, Wis. (WEAU) -- A pair of referendum questions in an area school district have failed.

On Tuesday, voters in the Ellsworth School District rejected a $29,000,000 proposal to move Lindgren Early Learning Center, Prairie View Elementary, and Hillcrest Elementary to one building that would have been on the middle and high school campus. It would have also improved campus parking, practice fields, and the concession area at the varsity stadium.

They also turned down a three-year proposal to keep providing existing educational programs and services and maintaining facilities. A brochure from the district says it will now have to make nearly $800,000 in budget cuts for the 2014-2015 school year, and more cuts the following year
