CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) The Secretary for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture and Trade, Ben Brancel, says despite the extreme weather, the crop outlook for this year is good.
Brancel was in Chippewa County Wednesday to give a speech at Rooney Farms about this year's harvests.
He says plants survived the brutal winter, because of new technology that is available for farmers.
"It just shows the genetics, that are available to our farmers today are so much superior. That opportunity to grow and produce a crop for us today is much better even with some of the weather related situations we're faced with than it was years ago," explains Brancel.
Brancel also says this year's dairy production has been lower than years past because of the cold and lower quality hay.
He thinks things will go back to normal next year.
