WORKOUT WEDNESDAY: Body Pump gets participants moving, energized

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Body Pump is a way to get moving and get toned, and more and more women are seeing the benefits of it.

It's high energy, high "burn," and a highlight of the day for a group of women we recently talked to at Gold's Gym in Eau Claire.

"I've been coming about nine years, and it's the best thing I've ever done for my body," said one of the participants.

Welcome to the world of Body Pump: a place of challenge, and results.

"I love the fact that you get a workout done in an hour of weightlifting," said Gold's Gym instructor Sue Czelatdko. "It's fun, it's challenging, motivating with the music. It's an energy high."

Czelatdko guides the group through exercises that target every major muscle group. They include lunges, squats, and work on biceps and triceps.

"What's beautiful about it is it's really good for all ages and all different fitness levels, because you can determine how much weight you want to lift."

Bonnie Kuehn agrees. She comes three times a week, and says Body Pump keeps her feeling young.

"As you get older, your muscles go, so you want to keep your muscles strong," she said. "I feel it's due to my exercise. We work on all the components of fitness in the class."

Balance and strength are both covered. It's an effective way to stay lean.

"Women are sometimes afraid to lift weights for fear of getting big and bulky, but that's not the case. In this, we do a lot of repetition," said

"It's an all-over workout. You work every muscle in your body," Kuehn said.

The sweat comes fast here, and so does the calorie burn. It can be just as intense as you want it to be.

Is body pump for you? You'll have to check it out to know for sure.
