MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker says he "respectfully disagrees" with fellow Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner who criticized the lowering of American flags to half-staff in honor of Nelson Mandela.

Sensenbrenner made his comments Friday at a public speech in Brookfield. He said that flags should only be lowered to honor Americans, not foreign leaders.

President Barack Obama ordered flags to be flown at half-staff until Monday to honor Mandela, the former South African leader who died last week.

Walker followed suit and ordered all U.S. and Wisconsin flags lowered as well, calling Mandela an "an inspiring man, who stood as a distinct symbol of hope in the anti-apartheid movement."

Walker was asked about Sensenbrenner's comments Wednesday, and said only, "I respectfully disagree."
