MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has ordered flags lowered to half-staff in memory of Nelson Mandela.

In a statement, Walker says Mandela was "an inspiring man, who stood as a distinct symbol of hope in the anti-apartheid movement."

Walker also says Mandela unified South Africa as its first black president. The governor says the courage and bravery Mandela exhibited "in the face of injustice inspired not only his nation, but also the world."

Mandela died Thursday at age 95.

Walker ordered all U.S. and Wisconsin flags flown at half-staff starting Friday and ending at sunset on Monday.
