Walker supports ending same-day registration during CA speech

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker says he thinks that it would "much better" if Wisconsin did not have same-day voter registration.

Walker made the comments during a speech Friday night in California.

Walker's spokesman Cullen Werwie had nothing to add Monday to what Walker said.

Walker says in the speech that "It would be much better if registration was done in advance of Election Day, easier for our clerks to handle that."

Incoming Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has supported doing away with same-day voter registration in the past and sponsored a bill to do that when Democrat Jim Doyle was governor.

Vos said Monday he was open to the idea, but he did not know of anyone who planned to propose it and he had not spoken with Walker about it.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker continues to shed more light on what his legislative agenda will look like next year.

Walker used a speech Friday night at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Foundation in California to talk about his plans to pursue tax cuts, expand the voucher school program and tie higher education funding to meeting certain benchmarks.

The Wisconsin State Journal on Monday reported that the reception to Walker's California speech back home was mixed.

Incoming Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says Walker's message is consistent with what Republicans have been saying for months they want to do.

But Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chris Larson says the speech shows Walker has no plans to moderate his message.
