MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State officials held services around Wisconsin to observe Veterans Day.

Gov. Scott Walker spoke at an event Sunday at the state Capitol. He said, "Thank you," to all Wisconsinites who have served in the military.

He said there are over 400,000 veterans in Wisconsin. He asked those gathered to remember the 163 people with Wisconsin ties who have made the "ultimate sacrifice" since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Walker also asked for continued prayers for the military members still serving overseas.

On Sunday, another group of troops left for duty: About 100 members of the Wisconsin Air National Guard's 128th Air Control Squadron deployed to southwest Asia.

Ceremonies were also held in veterans' homes in Union Grove and King, and at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery near Spooner.
