MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker is urging the U.S. House to act quickly on a new bridge that would cross the St. Croix River.
Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton has set a March 15 deadline for federal approval of the bridge or he will ask that state funds for its construction be diverted to other projects.
Walker says without Minnesota's share of the funds, the project cannot continue. He urged the House to bring the legislation to the floor for a vote before its scheduled March 8 adjournment.
In a statement Wednesday, Walker says Wisconsin and Minnesota have worked together on the project over the past three decades to ensure the best location and plan was chosen and to protect the quality of life in the St. Croix Valley.
