Western Technical College expands

Leaders at one area community college are hoping a new building addition will give students an edge in the job market.

Thursday, Western Technical College broke ground on a 20,000 square foot expansion to the diesel and heavy equipment facility in La Crosse.

The $4.1 million dollar project is being funded by a nearly $80 million dollar referendum passed by voters last fall.

School leaders say the expansion allows the college to move out of a leased facility that wasn't really built for its intended purpose.

Construction will start in July and is expected to be finished by spring.
