Wis. DNR to release 75K pheasants

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin wildlife officials plan to release 75,000 pheasants ahead of this fall's hunting season.

The state Department of Natural Resources plans to release the birds about a week or so ahead of opening day on Oct. 19. The agency plans to distribute the birds across 92 public properties, including 22 new properties in southern, eastern and northwestern Wisconsin. A full stocking information sheet and property maps are available on the DNR's website.

The DNR stocked 54,000 pheasants last year.

The DNR also gives conservation clubs pheasant chicks to raise and release on local public and private land. This year the agency provided 36,250 rooster chicks to 34 clubs.
