Wis. man defends Obama 'hang in there' sign

REDGRANITE, Wis. (AP) -- A Wisconsin man who made a "Hang in there Obama" sign featuring an outline of a noose says he actually supports President Barack Obama.

Thomas Savka says that his sign in the east-central Wisconsin town of Redgranite "has nothing to do with color."

Instead, Savka says he wanted to get people's attention. He says "everybody's picking on Obama" and he wanted to convey an attitude of "hang in there, buddy."

Neighbors say the sign is in poor taste.

The Obama campaign released a statement calling the imagery "inappropriate" and saying it "has no place in public discourse around elections."
