MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin's unemployment rate for April was 7.1 percent, unchanged from the previous month.

The state Department of Workforce Development reported the latest figure on Thursday. It also released preliminary numbers showing the state added 32,000 private sector jobs last year.

The monthly report, which is based on two different surveys from the yearly one, also showed the state lost 22,600 jobs between March and April.

DWD Secretary Reggie News on cautioned against putting too much stock in the monthly figures which are based on much smaller samples than the yearly data and subject to significant revisions.

Gov. Scott Walker promised to create 250,000 private sector jobs by 2015. Based on the most accurate data, Walker's office says after two years about 62,000 jobs have been created.
