ELK MOUND, Wis. (WEAU) -- The Elk Mound School District is now home to the State of Wisconsin’s Superintendent of the Year.
The award pays tribute to the talent and vision of men and women who lead our nation's public schools.
Ron Walsh, the superintendent of the Elk Mound School District is the recipient of the 2014 Superintendent of the Year Award.
Walsh has been with the district for 21 years. The first ten he spent there as a teacher and he's been a superintendent of the district since 2003.
Walsh says he is happy to see a small school district like Elk Mound in the spotlight, out of 425 school districts in the state.
Walsh says there are around 1,150 students in his district, but it has been growing in the past several years.
Elk Mound schools recently have been renovated and Walsh says the district has exceeded expectations on this year's school report card.
Walsh is recognized for his community involvement, professionalism and meeting the needs of his students.
“I'm really happy and flattered for our school district,” said Walsh.
“It certainly isn’t just me; it's about the excellent principles I have, the excellent teachers and support staff that we have in Elk Mound; it's just a great community, and I think it reflects that; I'm very proud for our community,” he added.
Walsh says he shares the award with his outstanding and supportive school board and administrative staff.
Walsh will receive his award at a national conference in February.
