MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Wisconsin Legislature's Black and Latino Caucus is inviting white lawmakers who represent largely minority districts to participate in its meetings for the first time.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports the state has 12 legislative districts in which most residents are members of a racial or ethnic minority. But only seven districts are represented by minority lawmakers.

The caucus is asking white lawmakers representing the mostly minority districts to attend meetings but it is stopping short of giving them full membership with voting rights.

It's also considering inviting Republican Rep. Jessie Rodriguez, of Franklin, although her district is mostly white.

Wisconsin's seven minority lawmakers are the fewest the state has had since 1992.
