MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin residents will get a chance to get rid of unused, expired and unwanted prescription drugs later this month as part of the next National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration hosts the biannual take-back day. The next one is set to for April 26.

Police departments across Wisconsin will serve as collection points. The DEA's website offers a list of participating agencies.

Police say prescription painkiller abuse can lead to opiate addiction, which in turn can lead to heroin use. They say getting unused painkillers out of the home reduces the chances of abuse and theft.

The state Department of Justice says Wisconsin residents dropped off more than 19 tons of drugs during the last take-back day in October.
