Woman killed in Barron County crash

(WEAU) - A woman died Tuesday morning after hitting a semi head-on in Barron County.

The sheriff's department says around 6:15 a.m., Cheryl Baglien, 52, of Turtle Lake was attempting to pass a car around a curve on Highway 8 when she was hit by a semi. She died on the scene.

A teenage girl in the passenger seat was flown to Regions Hospital with serious injuries.

The semi driver was uninjured.

Traffic had to be detoured for 8 hours after the crash.


BARRON, Wis. (BARRON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE) - On January 15, 2013, at approximately 6:15 a.m., the Barron County Dispatch Center received a call of a semi vs car crash on Highway 8 east of County W.

Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department responded along with Wisconsin State Patrol, Barron Police Department, Turtle Lake Police Department, Wisconsin DNR, Rice Lake Ambulance, Barron Ambulance, Life Link Helicopter, Barron Fire Department, and Cameron Fire Department.

Initial investigations shows that Cheryl Baglien, age 52 of Turtle Lake, driving a Kia Sorrento was traveling west on Highway 8, passing on a double yellow on a curve and was struck by an eastbound semi driven by Steven Hoffman of Exeland. Cheryl Baglien was deceased on scene. Chloe Baglien, 17 of Turtle Lake was passenger in the Baglien vehicle was flown to Regions Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the semi was uninjured in the crash.

The traffic on Highway 8 was detoured to County W and County O during the investigation for 8 hours.

This incident remains under investigation by the Barron County Sheriffs Dept and Wisconsin State Patrol.
