Xcel Energy building new substation

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A power company is building a new substation near Eau Claire.

Xcel Energy recently started work on a substation between State Highway 37 and Fehr Road in the Town of Brunswick. The project could cost $4,000,000. The company says it will connect to an existing transmission line just west of the site. Crews started building the substation last month after getting approval from the state earlier that month. It's expected to be up and running in April.

The company says the substation will "ensure continued electric reliability" to people and businesses in the Eau Claire area.
