Xcel Energy donates $155,000 to area United Way

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- The United Way will get a big boost thanks to a local energy company.

On Wednesday, representatives with Xcel Energy presented a check worth more than $155,000 to the United Way. The United Way says the money will go toward one of its partners, the Literacy Volunteers of the Chippewa Valley.

Xcel Energy says several of its employees volunteer their free time with the Literacy Volunteers and the donation is a way to make an impact in the community.

"I'm really proud of our employees' efforts and really proud of the company's efforts to match donations as well," said Mike Stoering, with Xcel Energy.

Every dollar contributed by employees and retirees is matched by Xcel Energy. In 2013, Xcel Energy raised more than $5.52 million for United Way agencies across the country.
