YMCA hosts junior tennis tournament to celebrate National Olympic Day

(WEAU) - Area kids played tennis Friday and got to meet an Olympic athlete.

The YMCA is hosting a junior tennis tournament at Memorial High School Friday and Saturday to celebrate National Olympic Day. The tournament is one of more than 700 events happening nationwide between June 22 and July 1st.

Former U.S. Olympian Mike Peplinski was in Eau Claire to tell his story and answer questions. Peplinski told us Friday "To have these kids be able to come out and compete and talk to them about what the Olympic movement is all about, using Olympic Days as that avenue, to share my story and to share all the ideas is important to me."

Olympic Day was created in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games.
