Former researcher accused of growing marijuana at UW-Madison

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A former plant researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is accused of growing marijuana in a university lab.

A Wisconsin State Journal report (http://bit.ly/RNFC0k ) says 45-year-old Christopher J. Schwartz was charged Friday with two felony counts of marijuana manufacturing and possession.

Prosecutors say someone discovered 12 marijuana plants being grown inside a growth chamber in the biochemistry building last month. The criminal complaint says the chamber was used by Schwartz and locked with a padlock.

A university spokeswoman says Schwartz was initially placed on administrative leave after his arrest, but he resigned late last month.
