Madison police say about 44,000 tickets were sold for this year's Freakfest, the city-approved Halloween party, but there were few serious incidents. Police spokesman Joel Despain said Sunday, there were 47 arrests all weekend…but only two people went to jail. The rest were ticketed and released.
Despain says it's the fourth straight successful year for Freakfest, with no major incidents, no serious injuries and no property damage. Before the city took over and started charging admission, the formerly spontaneous event sometimes got out of hand and improvised street parties turned into small-scale riots. More than 300 police officers provided security at the event Saturday night.
