The Raptor Education Group in northwestern Wisconsin is asking hunters to have a heart -- a deer heart that is.
The group, out of Antigo, spends thousands of dollars some months to feed dozens of birds.
Executive Director Marge Gibson says it helps when the community kicks in to help with food, since the group depends on donations.
So this year, the group is asking hunters to donate the hearts of any deer they kill, instead of just throwing them away.
Gibson says birds can't digest a lot of fat, so hearts are great food because they are all muscle and packed with protein.
Zillman's meat market in Wausau is collecting the hearts.
