Eau Claire, WI (WEAU) - Today, a new police chief could be selected for the city of Eau Claire. Currently, there are four candidates vying for the job.
About a week ago, Human Resources Director Dale Peters told WEAU 13 News about the candidates. They are Steven Hebbe of Anchorage, AK, Maurice Richards of Chicago, IL, Gerald Staniszewski of Eau Claire, and David Zibolski of DeForest.
Staniszewski is currently Deputy Chief of the Eau Claire Police Department's Detective Division. Hebbe is listed as Deputy Chief at the Anchorage Police Department on that department's website. He was offered the Chief of Police job in Menomonie in December 2011, but turned it down. Richards is currently a lieutenant with the Chicago Police Department. Zibolski retired from the Milwaukee Police Department as a captain in June 2011. The city received 17 applications for the job.
Peters says all four candidates were invited to interview with the Police and Fire Commission, which is a five-member, citizen board, on Friday. He says the candidates also met other interview teams consisting of staff and others from the community.
