Deadline approaching for WI turkey hunt apps at Fort McCoy
People have about three more weeks to submit applications to hunt turkeys on a western Wisconsin military base this spring.
Applications are available at the fort's website, www.mccoy.army.mil and at the fort's welcome center. People must submit them to the fort's permit sales office. Successful applicants can purchase their permits through any authorized DNR agent throughout the state or through the DNR's online licensing center.

College Goal Wisconsin events to be held statewide
Free assistance with financial aid applications for college-bound students across Wisconsin will be offered next month.

There are 29 locations for the College Goal Wisconsin events on Feb. 18 and Feb. 19. The assistance sponsored by the Wisconsin Association for Student Financial Aid Administrators is designed to help low-income and first-generation college students who are seeking federal student aid.

Students born after Jan. 1, 1989, are asked to bring a parent along with a completed federal income tax return for 2011 and W2 statements.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling dehumidifiers after several have caught fire.

the 30-pint portable dehumidifiers are made by LG, and sold under the Goldstar and ComfortAire brands.

They were sold at Home Depot, Walmart, Ace Hardware, Do It Best, Orgill, and other retailers nationwide from January 2007 through June 2008.

It compares tuition rates and prices minus financial aid for schools during the 2009-2010 school year, and it goes a bit farther.

Alice in Dairyland is a one-year, full-time contract position with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. The 64th Alice in Dairyland will begin work June 1st and during her year will travel about 40,000 miles as a spokesperson for Wisconsin's food, fiber, and biofuel industries. Additionally, she will present hundreds of speeches, provide more than 100 media interviews, and visit thousands of students.

Wisconsin's Electronics Recycling Law Takes Effect Sept. 1st
Wisconsin's Electronics Recycling Law, passed last October, bans the disposal of a old televisions, computers, cell phones and other electronics in state landfills and incinerators.
The DNR says electronics are the fastest growing component of waste in the United States.
Under a new state-wide program, electronics manufacturers will pay to recycel a certain amount of electronics from households and schools each year.
