Last Updated: 11:23 PM 10/31/09 - Level Two of the WIAA state football playoffs saw only a handful of teams from Western Wisconsin keep their seasons alive. Both Eau Claire Regis and Chippewa Falls McDonell advanced to Level Three, as the Ramblers beat Bangor, 38-8, while the Macks took down Plum City, 22-0. Meanwhile, each of the Big Rivers Conference co-champs were knocked out Saturday, as Hudson fell to Stevens Point, 28-8, while Menomonie was knocked out by Merrill, 13-6. In high school girls volleyball, Chippewa Falls McDonell cliched its first-ever trip to state with a 3-0 sectional final win over Rib Lake. In Division 1, Eau Claire North fell just short of a berth at state, losing to D.C. Everest, 3-2. Last Updated: 11:56 PM 10/27/09 - The Menomonie Indians began their 20th straight run in the WIAA state playoffs with a convincing win in Level 1, scoring a 35-6 victory in Division 2 over Holmen. Co-Big Rivers Conference champion Hudson also opened their postseason with a win in the Division 1 bracket, upending Wisconsin Rapids 21-6. In Division 6, Eau Claire Regis earned its second-straight trip to Level 2 of the playoffs by beating Whitehall, 43-21. Also moving on to Saturday's second round is Chippewa Falls McDonell, who held off Elmwood, 42-13. Last Updated: 11:07 PM 10/22/09 - Despite needing just one win to earn a trip to next week's WIAA football playoffs, Eau Claire Memorial couldn't continue their comeback season, falling 35-3 to Big Rivers Conference co-champ Hudson. Two-time defending BRC champion Chippewa Falls also is out of the postseason picture after a 26-13 loss to this year's conference co-champion, Menomonie. In the WIAA state boys soccer playoffs, Eau Claire Memorial and Hudson will square off in a Division 1 sectional semifinal Saturday. The Old Abes beat Marshfield, 2-1, while Hudson downed D.C. Everest, 1-0, to move one game away from a trip to the state tournament. For the Old Abes, the loss forces them to win next Thursday to earn a playoff spot. In Hudson, the Raiders kept pace with the Indians, earning a 34-14 win over Eau Claire North. In the Cloverbelt Conference, Eau Claire Regis improved to 7-1 with a 33-14 win over Stanley-Boyd, while in the Marawood, a blocked extra point cost Chippewa Falls McDonell against Marathon, 21-20. The Old Abes also picked up an important victory on the pitch, as the Memorial boys soccer team captured a regional final title with a 3-0 win over Lakeland. In another Division 1 soccer sectional, Eau Claire North's playoff run ended with a 2-1 loss to Marshfield.
