The Menomonie Indians began their 20th straight run in the WIAA state playoffs with a convincing win in Level 1, scoring a 35-6 victory in Division 2 over Holmen. Co-Big Rivers Conference champion Hudson also opened their postseason with a win in the Division 1 bracket, upending Wisconsin Rapids 21-6. In Division 6, Eau Claire Regis earned its second-straight trip to Level 2 of the playoffs by beating Whitehall, 43-21. Also moving on to Saturday's second round is Chippewa Falls McDonell, who held off Elmwood, 42-13.
