Canadian researchers studied the effect of "kangaroo care" on babies who'd been born between 28 and 31 weeks gestation. Kangaroo care involves skin- to-skin contact with their mother.

Babies whose mothers held them for 15 minutes before and during a heel prick blood test had fewer pained facial expressions and recovered more quickly than other babies.

Experts say bouncing back more quickly from pain could be significant for the health of these tiny babies who must spend the majority of their time in incubators.

And in other medical news…
Doctors, nurses and others who often wear rubber gloves may soon have an alternative if they're allergic to latex.

Traditional latex gloves are made from the sap of a rubber tree, which contains a protein that may trigger allergic reactions like rash, hives or even respiratory problems in severe cases.

Now the FDA says the Yulex Corporation in Arizona may market a new form of natural rubber latex, called guayule latex.

It's made from a desert plant native to the southwestern u-s, called the guayule bush.

Evidence shows that even people who are extremely allergic to traditional latex don't have reactions to the guayule latex proteins.
