Whose care a baby is under for the first nine months of their life may determine their weight.
Researchers at the University of Illinois studied over 8,000 nine month old infants. They found those who were watched by someone other than their parents were less likely to have been breastfed, and were introduced to solid foods earlier than those watched by their parents. Researchers say these could be factors for early weight gain.
However, studies have also shown children in child care have advanced cognitive, language and social skills.
And in other medical news...
Experts from the University of Michigan say the full impact of childhood obesity might still be to come in the form of a Type II Diabetes epidemic.
They say the disease is a common complication of obesity but it can take ten years or longer to develop.
This means there could soon be a boom in cases, leading to further complications like kidney and heart problems, even blindness.
Experts say prevention messages are prevalent for adults, but more needs to be done to stop the disease in kids.
