Research has shown that drinking moderate amounts of alcohol can be beneficial to heart health as well as protect against some types of stroke and cancer.
Now a new study shows that quitting drinking can lead to other health problems.
Researchers at the University of North Carolina performed experiments on lab mice and discovered regular drinkers who then stop, often suffer from depression and cognitive problems.
The depressed behavior and reduced brain capacity lasted about two weeks after drinking stopped.

Full-day kindergarten programs appear to help children's reading and math skills more than part-day programs, but a new study shows that advantage may not last.
Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh and Loyola University studied the academics and home environments of over 13,000 children throughout their elementary school years.
Initially, they found children attending full-day kindergarten showed superior academic skills to those in part-day programs, but by the end of third grade, that advantage had faded out. By fifth grade had actually reversed.
