Taking an Omega 3 fatty acid supplement may help heart failure patients, while statin drugs may not.
Researchers in Italy assigned nearly 1,000 chronic heart failure patients to a once-daily Omega 3 fatty acid supplement.
They found fewer people in the supplement group died, and they were less likely to be admitted to the hospital.
In another study, researchers looked at heart failure patients taking a statin, or cholesterol-lowering drug. They found those taking the drug did not exhibit a survival benefit.
The most common side effect in both studies was gastro- intestinal disorders.

A new study finds allergic reactions to the human papilloma-virus or HPV vaccine are higher than other common immunizations.
An Australian study finds the rate of anaphylaxis -- which causes breathing problems, nausea and rashes, is about five to 20 times higher for the HPV vaccine.
Researchers say this could be due to an allergic reaction to the vaccine's components or possibly a higher rate of anaphylaxis in women compared to men. They say while doctors should be sure to recognize any signs of anaphylaxis, they stress these instances are still rare and say the vaccine is safe.
