A new study sheds new light on how mothers feed their babies.

The FDA / CDC study of 2,000 new mothers found only 8% were exposed to all the hospital practices that encourage and help with breastfeeding.

The more of these practices the mothers experienced, the more likely they were to stick with breastfeeding for at least six weeks.

The good news, almost all moms who fed their babies formula used an iron fortified brand; and more than 20% of infants had food related health problems, including six percent with allergies.

In other medical news…

A different CDC study finds adolescents are behind younger children when it comes to most immunizations.

Researchers looked at the records of 24,000 teens, and found only 67 to 84% of them were up to date on their hepatitis B, MMR and tetanus immunizations.

Adolescents who went to regular yearly checkups were more likely to have up-to-date immunizations.
