Natural remedies for H1N1
Protecting yourself against the seasonal flu and H1-N1 will have a lot of people lining up for a shot, or heading to the pharmacy. But as Terri Trembath tells us, there has also been a boost in sales of natural remedies across Canada.

Selling natural lines of defense against the flu is what Sheryl Jeffrey does best. Her job is to focus on holistic remedies, usually she gets about three customers a day, but lately she's seen ten times that number. "This year is off the charts," she says…off the charts because of the H-1-N-1 threat.

Instead of relying on mainstream choices like the flu shot and cold remedies, Jeffries says people are starting to look for more organic solutions. "Eat well, eat a fresh, wholesome, organic diet, use a few things like oregano oil or pro-biotics to help prevent as well as protect," she suggests.

Across town at his local health clinic, Doctor Raj Inder Rakhra says prescribing homeopathic products to ward off the flu does work, just as well or even better than drugs. “Oh yes, it does work, I've been practicing for 40 years, if it doesn't work, I will not be in this business"

Terry Willard agrees, he's a clinical herbologist, he says the most common question he hears is whether or not to get the H-1-N-1 vaccine. His advice, vitamins are better. "There are several reasons for that,” he says, “meaning there's large numbers of medical doctors, even in the United States who have decided not to take the vaccination, simply because taking vitamin D-3 seems to be better than the vaccination.” Calgarians can make their own choice next month, that's when both the season flu shot and the H1-N1 vaccine will be available to everybody in the country.
