You might think it looks sexy when you see others with belly rings and body piercings at the beach or on your vacation.

But vacation body piercing can sometimes lead to body piercing regret.

Sophia Kloeber likes the idea of body piercing, but she's no fan of doing it on vacation.

She has piercing regret since having her neck punctured while out of town.

Ron Rotatori has been piercing bodies for more than a decade and says anyone considering it should do their homework.

According to the Mayo Clinic, piercing risks include: blood-born diseases like hepatitis B and C, tetanus and HIV.

Other risks include: allergic reactions to the jewelry, cracked teeth if your tongue is pierced, skin infections and scars.

Ron says never, ever let someone pierce your body with an ear piercing gun.

The Association of Professional Piercers, a health and safety organization, says most ear guns can't be fully sterilized.

The A.P.P. also says ask to see a salon's sterilizer called an autoclave.

Ask for spore test results ... Proof that the autoclave is killing the most dangerous organisms.

Salons should keep them on file.

Make sure the piercer washes hands and wears gloves.

And fresh equipment is essential.

A new, sterile needle should be used for all piercings.
