GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The U.S. Defense Department says a Wisconsin soldier has been fatally wounded in Afghanistan.
Twenty-seven-year-old Spc. Paul Atim of Green Bay was among three soldiers fatally injured Saturday in Nimroz Province when insurgents attacked their unit with a bomb. The other two slain soldiers were from Texas.
The three were 10th Mountain Division soldiers based out of Fort Drum, N.Y.
Atim joined the Army in 2006. He was on his second tour of Afghanistan.
Survivors include Atim's mother and child.
In a statement, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker extended his condolences to Atim's friends and family, and said his death is "a stern reminder" of the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces every day.
