SkyWarn 13: Rain, T'Storms and Some Flooding Possible

(WEAU) - a wet Thursday morning for much of the WEAU viewing area turned into an afternoon of showers and a thunderstorms. Street flooding was reported near Rice Lake this morning as radar estimated 3-5" of rain fell. In Eau Claire we have picked up close to half inch at the station through 2:45 pm, but more heavy rain and lightning is coming this evening.

Warmer temperatures and a more unstable air mass built in southern Minnesota this afternoon and that is leading to another round of showers and thunderstorms moving in this evening. Those storms will push east into Wisconsin after 5:00 and the strongest will continue through the evening for Pierce, Pepin, southern Dunn, Eau Claire, Buffalo, Trempealeau and Jackson counties. It is possible some of those storms will be severe with hail and damaging winds, but the biggest concern will likely be flash flooding, as these storms could drop 1-3" of rain over a few hours time. Father north near Highway 8, the heavy rain has come to an end, although more scattered showers are possible through the rest of the evening. Places near I-90 like La Crosse, Sparta and Tomah will have to wait until later in the evening before the storms roll through there.

There is a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10 pm for Buffalo, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pepin, Pierce, St. Croix, and Trempealeau in WI, and Winona in MN.
