(WEAU)-The first winter storm of the season will continue to impact the area and eventually wrap up overnight.
A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect for Barron, Chippewa, Clark, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Price, Rusk, St. Croix, Taylor, Buffalo, Trempealeau, Jackson, Houston, Juneau, La Crosse, Monroe, Vernon, and Winona Co. through Midnight tonight.
Snow is starting to lighten up across Western Wisconsin. The snow showers will continue but eventually taper to flurries by morning. Accumulation should be minimal overnight. Road conditions could still be quite difficult overnight.
The heaviest snow will fall west of Eau Claire in the St. Croix Valley where snowfall totals could approach 12" or more. The Eau Claire area will see between 6-9". The La Crosse area can expect 3-6" of snow. Areas north of Highway 8 can expect similar totals.
The winds will pick up overnight which could lead to some blowing snow into Monday. Behind this system is also some much colder air. Temperatures will drop throughout the day on Monday with temps in the 10s and wind chills in the single digits.
