The FCC has been forcing telecom companies to provide phone and internet service to rural areas for years, regardless of how bad a model and investment that is in those areas. The USPS should be held to the same set of rules and made to figure out a way to continue the service. I think that's what is happening.

I live in a small rural town, the next nearest post office is over 15 miles. They want to close ours. I have a small business, dependent on the post office & it would most likely close me down. I work at home because of a disabled husband & this gives me a little extra income. Just because we are small doesn't mean we work less. We have only 3 employees, & they are kept busy handling the town & township. It is a shame that people think because they are urban they deserve more. Some cities have several post offices in a much closer range than we do. We should be able to have easy access also & not need to drive 30 miles (round trip) to mail a package!

Shorter hours? Just shut them down. I live in a rural village with no home mail delivery. I have to get my mail at a PO Box in the post office, where the hours are 9-4. I work, therefore, I can never get my mail anyway. I'd rather see them close the place and restore home delivery, which would be cheaper than paying some guy who never does anything.

Typical government run operation. Just can't make the necessary cuts.

Bad move. These little town people do little work and get paid like big city workers do. Slash them. Supper, arket service counters do the same things for the public at 1 zillionth of the cost.
