I know a guy like that at work. Funny thing is he is hardcore tea party.

Actually a very large percentage of them get that check in the mail and head for the nearest tavern, get drunk, get in a fight with their significant other, then leave in a rage, get stopped for OWI and return the money back to the county in the form of fines. They then have to pay to sit in jail and miss work so next year they make even less money and repeat the whole cycle. Do not get me wrong, there are people out there that fall on hard times such as extreme medical expenses that have legitimate needs, but most poor are victims of their own poor choices and in this country everyone has the means to reverse that. Loose your job, go to one of the temp agencies and let them help you get your foot in the door so that you have the opportunity to sell yourself to a perspective employer, don't just sit and blame your misfortune on the president or the governor because it ain't gonna help.

My point is that they while they are paying in taxes that Don mentioned they get those monies and often more back so in fact they do not pay into the system. As far as what the wealthy might do with their money first it is none of our business just as it is none of theirs how you spend yours or I mine. But, all the wealthy folks I have met invest their money because they know that inflation eats away at principal if you leave it in a bank. Nowthen, even if it is in a bank it doesn't just sit there like some version of a Scrooge McDuck vault that he can swim in the money. That is where the bank gets funds to loan out to other folks to invest in infrastructer, machinery, homes and so-forth and that money even in the bank creates jobs. Without money in the bank we wouldn't be able to build this country.

Barb, if all we need to do is have more tax refunds for the poor, why don't we just run the printing presses 24/7 till we're all enjoying prosperity? That's right, because government either gets it's money from taxing it from the productive class, borrowing it from the private sector, or printing it, deluting the value of everyone's money

That Walker sliced and diced to help balance his budget. So that although the exemptions are still there they are considerably less now.
Posted by: Barb on May 11, 2012 at 06:06 PM

And then, when they get that refund, guess what they do with it? They spend it -- they put it right back into the economy. If a millionaire gets money back what do you think they do -- guess -- come one, you can do it -- they put it in a savings acct or a Swiss bank account -- so, Northwoods Free Man, your point is?

Then they file their 1040's and get tax exemptions, homstead tax credits, childcare credits and how many more credits I couldn't count and get all that back and often more.

Not a chance.

@RonB and Northwoods, RonB, the average family pays no federal income tax, are you sure you want to stick to that argument, it would be quite a surprise to most working folks to know, they don't pay taxes. Northwoods, I would be open to a flat tax, I think we do need tax reform of some kind, I also believe we should consider using sales tax for school funding to get it off the property tax roles, and make everyone contribute not just property owners, however both your arguments about the $250,000 level are not quite correct, because a lot of the actual taxes paid at this level and above are not on actual income, and may actually be lower than a family making 60,000.

@Geo, perhaps I am getting cynical in my old age but when I visit the "poor" today I see flat screen TV's, automobiles parked in the garage, microwave ovens and cell phones. Where I grew up in northern Wisconsin I saw real poor folks living in the back woods, no electricity or phones or automobiles scratching out a living. Even these folks would often give freely at church and share any bounty amoungst themselves and us. We were a community because we were all personally invested in each other. We all had skin in the game. When 49% of all folks do not pay taxes they are only going to vote for whoever promises them the most goodies not what is best for the country. They need to be invested in the good of the country not just the good of themselves.

@Anon & @ Geo, I am a free man and will vote for whoever persuades me that they have the best plan for preserving or enhancing freedom. The man has been running for Gov for a month already and still is presenting no plan. I have seen plenty of adverts tearing down Walker but I have no idea what Barrett wants to do if he wins. Please Geo, enlighten me!

Whatever

Just curious, How many Democrates out there are considering voting for Walker? I'll be #1 in this poll. Please weigh in.

Why is cutting education spending such a negative statement. If they are spending more than is required, why should they be exempt from fiscal scrutiny and restructuring, any more than other recipients of public financing? They are no more or no less important when it comes to putting our state back in order. And please, no comment putting yourself up on some self made pedestal.
