Trail Camera's allowed on DNR land

The State Natural Resources Board has decided to let people leave trail cameras overnight on pubic land.

The cameras are commonly used by hunters on private land for scouting wildlife but until now have been prohibited on Department of Natural Resources-Managed land.

Will Moulton, the manager of Aouldy's Archery and Tackle has been using trail cameras to track deer for years.

"Most hunters have 2 to 4 cameras" says Moulton

Trail cameras give hunters 24 hour surveillance of wild life patterns

"A lot will take three pictures bursts that will take one then another and then pause for what ever time you want and then start taking those picture bursts again so you can set it by date and time. "
says Moulton

And that time- sensitive information is an advantage on both private and public land.

"The DNR has seen some real benefits to the cameras we've been able to track cougar patterns in the area that we wouldn't have been able to with out them because those animals are secretive and roam at night. " says Culhane

Wisconsin DNR representative ed culhane says that constant information is why the dnr has decided to allow trail camera's on their land. But with some restrictions.
Cameras may only be set up on areas that allow hunting, cameras are still prohibited at camp grounds and nature trails.

"it's important that people understand that they don't own the area and the area is accessible to everyone" says Culhane

"We are going to be reminding people that the placement of these cameras is at your own risk. " says Moulton

Culhane says the DNR will not investigate any stolen or broken cameras

But for hunter's like Moulton a successful hunt is worth it.

"You can see when the deer will be there maybe its there every wednesday at 8..."
