LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) – The La Crosse Police and Fire Commission has narrowed down its pool of candidates for the city’s police chief position to three finalists.
On Tuesday, the commission announced that those finalists are Robert Abraham, Interim Chief of Police in La Crosse, Jeffrey Trotnic, Chief of Police in Onalaska, and Ronald Tischer, police captain in Waukesha.
The city plans to conduct second interviews on July 27.
The city’s human resources department says it hopes a decision will be made after the second interviews. It plans to do background checks after that. The department says having a new police chief next month would be great, but that there’s no telling whether that would work for the candidate.
Former Chief of Police Ed Kondracki retired in April after 47 years in law enforcement. He spent 19 of them with the La Crosse Police Department.
