Police search for tutu thief after Eau Claire store burglarized (8/8/12)

EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. (WEAU) - Stolen tutus and picture books have a downtown Eau Claire consignment store owner and police looking for suspects.

The store "That's Adorable" on Barstow Street is usually full of second-hand kids clothes, but when its owner came to open Tuesday, she said she noticed an unlocked door and empty hangers.

Owner Beth Schwartz now has extra work to do after someone came in after hours and stole baby boys' shirts, dance clothes and books.

Schwartz called police and worried the lock may not have been completely latched.

She said the person or persons responsible likely brought kids along with them.

"Those windows were all smudged and covered in kid fingerprints from waist down," she said. "Think about the example that you're setting and what you're teaching your children and what they may do when they get older."

With no suspects, Schwartz has posted pictures of the stolen items and police asked for the public's help to keep a look out what was taken, and report anything found.

"I'm hoping to make contacts with gymnastics and dance studios in the area," Schwartz said.

She said for whomever is responsible: "You should have just come and asked me, I would have helped you. I would have pulled together clothing, books ... I would have happily given you ones that I knew were owned by me or the store and not those of my consigners."

Schwartz said the items taken are worth more than $100 and that she plans on adding a motion light and getting a new lock.
