MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin has added 900 private sector jobs in the past month and the state's unemployment rate has held steady.

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development reported Thursday that the unemployment rate in May was 6.8 percent. That is up slightly from 6.7 percent in April and still below the national rate of 8.2 percent.

The state also added 900 private sector jobs in the past month.

Based on that data, 3,200 jobs have been added since Gov. Scott Walker took office in 2011. But Walker says data from a more comprehensive survey of employers shows the state actually gained about 23,300 jobs in 2011.

Which numbers to trust was a major part of the recall campaign Walker won last week.
