When I have to pay into that INSURANCE fund with every paycheck, you bet your sweet bippy I'm 'entitled' to that money when my employer decides to push me out the door for no good reason. You shouldn't have to pee in a cup to receive money you EARNED. You don't get UI if you haven't worked enough to pay into it. Anyone who works knows this. Why don't you?

The thing is, if someone is working 'under the influence' and the ONLY way you can tell is by testing their urine, are they really causing a problem? If they can successfully perform their job sloshy drunk, why fire them? I've worked with my fair share of 'sober' people who are as worthless as a screen door on a submarine, and a good lot of illegal drug users who work harder than most. The error here is assuming that people who use certain drugs are by default 'handicapped'. This is simply not realistic.

Here's a better idea; DON'T TELL ME WHAT I CAN'T PUT IN MY OWN BODY.

You may feel that this is 'just the way things are', but you forget that WE made things this way, and just as easily, we could END this idiocy of drug prohibition. Perhaps it is YOU who needs a better understanding of the concept of American freedom. You may embrace your enslavement and feel no shame, but to a human being with dignity and self-respect, drug testing for a job or for help IS degrading, disrespectful, and insulting. Judge me by my JOB PERFORMANCE, not by the contents of my urine. Are we adults who can make our own decisions, or are we children who have to be mothered by the government?

Your tired old cliches are tired and old. It's been proven that if they used cannabis, the weld would be straighter, the trucker would drive safer, the surgeon will have a steadier hand, and the day care provider would be much less likely to abuse your kids. I'm sorry, but reality bursts your prohibitionist bubble.

Thank you for another intelligent response. I wish they were not so rare.

Im not for or against the legalization of weed but it is quite ignorant to say that because one fails a drug test they would be stoned out of their mind at work. That is like saying a person who drinks will only come to work belligerently drunk. From my expierence it is shocking the people who smoke weed you would not expect and are rather successful. To me honestly not much difference if you drink occasionally/in moderation or smoke weed occasionally/in modetation.

Criminals no, but people on assistance these days are a little to nonchalant about it. If this makes them want to get off of assistance anyway they can, I'm all for it.

So by that logic, would YOU be willing to spend a part of your Social Security check on drug testing YOU before you can get that money you worked for all your life?

Unfortunately, your claim has no basis in reality. People who use illegal drugs are no more dangerous than those who use LEGAL drugs every day. Prescription medications mess your head up far more than smoking a joint.

That's exactly what they want to do. Ironically, they also don't want the streets littered with homeless people, so I guess they should all just jump in the river, too. They can float away with all the women, minorities, uninsured, unemployed, and basically anyone who isn't an ignorant white guy with money.

Yes, because as an employer I want my employees stoned out of their minds while they're at work because the decreased reflex time wouldn't be a concern with say welders, truck drivers, doctors or nurses. "Just sayin'..." Really, would you want a stoned doctor performing your surgery or taking care of your child?
