CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) – A suspect who was thought to have guns and knives in a camper with him was arrested safely after a standoff with sheriff’s deputies.

It happened at about 1 a.m. Friday at Pike Lake Resort in Cornell. Chippewa County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the resort to arrest Joshua Weggen, 29, of Cornell because of a series of other incidents. One involved suspected Criminal Trespassing.

When the deputies knocked on the door of an RV on the property, Weggen came to the door, locked it, and ran to the back. The deputies couldn’t get inside, so they formed a perimeter and used a loudspeaker to order Weggen to come out.

Several other deputies got to the scene to help as Weggen was seen barricading the door and windows. He was also seen holding a knife. He later changed into all camouflage clothing, started yelling, and put a handwritten note on the inside of the front windshield that said “go away.”

The Chippewa County Response Team showed up to try to arrest Weggen safely. A friend of Weggen’s helped out, and Weggen eventually came out. He was arrested and taken to the Chippewa County Jail.
