The taxpayers are paying the bill anyway.. These were on the clock, being paid already, first responders.. they were getting paid for sitting on their butts in the firehouse or in their cop cars anyway..(yes,I understand they were working, hopefully not just sitting around doing nothing)

Not one got their hair wet but me. The emt's just stood on the water street bridge and threw out a life preserver. They saw him coming down river and not one of them went down next to the river to rescue him. I didn't know he was wanted by the police at the time, all I saw was a man that needed help so I ran up and grabbed a life preserver and a tube and jumped into the river. As I was headed out towards him a emt yelled at me and said " WHO ARE YOU? and said not to help him. Pretty sad rescue attempt in my opinion.

All of those people who WERE already working, went to the scene to help because, yes, it is their job, BUT this idiot caused all of those resources to be used just because he didn't want to be caught by the police. I was listening to a scanner and they were busy all afternoon after that with REAL problems. How would you feel if you were having a medical emergency and had to wait because some jerk decided to pull something like this?

Why is it that he would have to pay for his rescue? Were these city officials off duty and called in or simply, what do they call it again, doing their job.

Think of the millions it would have cost had he donned the lifejacket and floated to New Orleans!

How many cops even got their hair wet?

This guy is a criminal. Let's just toss all the retrobates into the river and save $$ on the jail. Don't havta house, feed and care for their damaged egos. Anyone dumb enough to break into a joint and then jump into the river, let float off into oblivion. Save everyone time and money. Just sayin'

I dont think lieutenant Golden or any one in the "rescue" party were in any danger. This is a stretch of river that drunk college students frequently float down on hot days. Typical cop move to over exaggerate the importance of every thing they do.

If this guy was trying to break into a window cleaning office do you really think he's going to be able to pay for 20 people who tried rescuing him from the river? Get real. The taxpayers will end up footing the bill as always.
