Packers LB Bishop to have surgery on hamstring

Posted: 7:55 PM Aug 11, 2012
Reporter: Justus Cleveland

Mike McCarthy confirmed Thursday night that linebacker Desmond Bishop will need surgery on the hamstring he injured against the San Diego Chargers on Thursday night. The injury may end Bishops season. He also suffered a sprained knee in the game. McCarthy expressed his emotions on the loss of Bishop....

"I feel terrible, it was very unusual injury if you had a chance to see it on film. It is unfortunate, everybody knows the type a player Desmond is for us. He is definitely on of the spiritual individuals, the energy he bring to the workplace and just the way he plays. As far as the team, this is the unfortunate side of football and I look for our linebackers to step up"

2nd year linebacker D.J. Smith is next on the depth chart and will probably get an extended look at right inside linebacker with Bishop out.
