Rain slows corn, soybean harvest in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin farmers are wrapping up the fall harvest in Wisconsin and are trying to get the remaining corn and soybeans out of the fields before more wet weather moves in.

The National Agricultural Statistics Service office in Madison says 75 percent of corn in Wisconsin has been harvested, along with 93 percent of soybeans. Rain and muddy conditions have slowed the harvest and added to corn drying costs at grain elevators. The harvest is well behind last year's corn crop, which was damaged by the drought.

The Journal Sentinel says this year's U.S. corn crop is a record and has depressed prices to some of the lowest levels in three years. Farmers who counted on getting $6 per bushel for their corn, as they have in some recent years, could get $4 or less.
