A federal judge will decide whether a convicted killer from Jump River in Taylor County understands why Texas wants to execute him.
Scott Panetti is on death row for the 1992 deaths of his in-laws.
Following a competency hearing this week, the federal judge will
determine Panetti's mental state. His sister says her brother is delusional and doesn't understand the reason he is to be put to death.
However, Texas prosecutors say Panetti is faking his mental illness.
His family says the judge's decision is their last hope to stop Panetti's death.
