Another city is following Eau Claire's lead, now the city of La Crosse is days away from possibly banning the sale of K2, also known as synthetic marijuana.
The council as a whole voted 12-4 in favor of the ban at Tuesday night's meeting. Council member Chris Olson says his friend asked him to introduce legislation banning the sale of K2 after his friend's kids started having problems functioning after taking it. Olson says one council member spoke against banning K2 at the meeting, saying that a ban would be taking away people’s rights on something that isn’t illegal in the state.
Olson says the proposed ordinance will be similar to one the city of Eau Claire passed last month. The issue will go before the common council Thursday night.
